Abstract

The purpose of this study was to ascertain the competency needs of computer
studies teachers for effective teaching of web design. The population for the study
is 120 computer studies teachers in secondary schools in Nsukka educational
zone. A random of 93 respondents was drawn using a random sampling
technique. Five research questions guided the study. A structured questionnaire
was used for data collection. Data were analyzed using mean and standard
deviation. The findings revealed that teachers highly need competencies in
creating web page using HTML coding, using cascading style sheet, creating web
page using Adobe Dreamweaver building websites and maintaining and
updating websites. Based on the research findings, it was recommended among
others that the secondary schools in Nsukka educational zone should organize
workshops and seminars for computer studies teachers to help them acquire the
needed competencies on web design and development.
