Abstract
This study examined the problems hindering students’ skill acquisition as well as
the strategies for improving skill acquisition in Clothing and Textiles courses in
Tertiary Institutions in Lagos State. Descriptive design was adopted. The
population comprised of all Home Economics lecturers and students in four
tertiary Institutions in Lagos State. Questionnaire was used for data collection.
Data were analysed using mean. Results revealed, among others, that there are no
tools and equipment in the clothing and textiles laboratories in the schools and the
course was not properly funded. It was therefore recommended, among others,
that students’ practical classes should be funded by the school; exhibition fashion
shows should be organized to motivate the students.
